As the New year arrives, we often make sure to order and stock some of our customers favourite products so as to be prepared for the busy January period ahead. Many of our retail and wholesale clients but also members of the public are particularly loyal to us due to our quality of products and delivery time.
It is hence no surprise that our Extra Virgin Olive oil, tends to be one of our most popular products throughout the year and especially in the first few months. Nonetheless, we are often posed with the same question..”Why is Extra Virgin Olive Oil better than normal olive oil and what is the difference?”
Greece, as is widely known, is one of the top three olive oil-producing countries in the world, and Greek extra virgin olive oil is indisputably the finest on the market worldwide.
So let’s have a look at the difference in producing Extra virgin olive in comparison to normal and why it is that Greek Extra Virgin olive oil is so popular worldwide.
Difference between Extra Virgin and Normal Olive oil!
Extra-virgin olive oil is made from pure, cold-pressed olives, whereas regular olive oil is a blend, including both cold-pressed and processed oils. Any cold-pressed oil that doesn’t meet extra-virgin standards is then refined to get rid of undesirable impurities, giving the oil a more neutral flavour and lighter colour. Extra virgin olive oil is effectively produced by crushing olives and extracting their juice and is widely considered to be the only cooking oil that is made without the use of chemicals and industrial refining.
Why Greek Olive Oil?
Some could arguably say we are biased but nonetheless, it is a widely accepted fact that Greek Olive oil is of the highest rating and quality out there. Olive oil, or the “Golden Liquid” as Homer called it in his books, has been part of Greek history since ..well, forever. It was regarded as a basic and irreplaceable nutritional component of the Greek diet in ancient times and thought to protect one’s health whilst adding to one’s longevity. There are of course the obvious reasons for the idyllic climate in Greece and the nurturing and care Greeks have traditionally demonstrated for nature and their surrounding. Greek olive oil is regarded as the best in the world as it carries very low acidity and peroxides which make them of premium quality and can be recognized mainly from the fruitiness, the bitterness and the pungency in the taste.
